Three pillars of photography: Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed

Photo taken at aperture setting F2.8

Photo taken at aperture setting F16

1. The part of the body that we should closely relate aperture with is the eye.
2. The smaller the Aperture the larger the f-number, the higher the Aperture the smaller the f-number.
3. Aperture impacts Depth of Field because a smaller f-number will focus on the most noticeable thing and withe a larger f-number the background objects will become sharp.

Slow shutter speed

Fast shutter speed

a.) fast
b.) fast
c.) medium
d.) slow
e.) medium
f.) fast

2.
Aperture Priority - you will set the aperture and the shutter speed will automatically set its self
Shutter Priority - you will set the shutter speed and the aperture automatically sets its self
Manual - you change both aperture and shutter setting depending on how you want your photo to come out

F4 - 1/125 - the background is very blurry and you can only see the couple clearly
F5.6 - 1/60 - the picture still shows up blurry in the background but it is more visible and the couple is        clear
F8 - 1/60 - the picture's background is the same as the one before but the photo is a bit darker
F11 - 1/60 - the background is less blurry  but the whole photo is darker
F16 - 1/30 - the background is almost clear but the photo is dark
F22 - 1/15 - the background is as clear as the couple but the photo is still dark

When the shutter speed is slow the photo becomes blurry because the subjects might not stay still or the photographer might be moving their hand. Something that the photographer could do to make it a better picture is to use something to hold the camera still like a tripod.

The lowest Shutter Speed i think a photographer can hand-hold the camera without a tripod is at shutter speed 1/30.

Great Black and White Photographers Part 3

1. Something that first caught my eye about the photographs I chose is that each one of them are unique. Even though they are mostly of nature, they are not all the same. Also I love pictures of nature.

2.  I see plants everywhere. Grasshoppers jumping on the grass and frogs leaping from one lily pad to another. I see bees on the flowers, flying with the clear blue sky in the background.

I smell the fresh air that flows through. Also the green healthy grass. I can smell the sent each flower releases.

I taste the fresh breeze coming towards me. I can taste the fresh water just by looking around. Also, i can taste the freshness of the new plants.

I feel a slight breeze coming and leaving. I can feel the bright sun hitting my akin. And the grass touching my feet as I walk.

3. Something i would like to create to show the world this photographer is a blog so everyone can see it and notice his wonderful photographs.

Caption Writing: 5 Ws and H

 1. Joey Gray kisses Beth Gonzalez on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Times Square in New York City. Gray excitedly grabbed Gonzalez when the news was announce that the allies had defeated the Nazis, ending World War II.

 2. Mary Smith panics when she finds Jonny Oswald on the floor on Monday at 5:42. Oswald was shot during a protest on a school campus.

 3. John Martinez jumps off of the left twin tower on Wednesday, September 11th in New York after a plane crashed into it. He decides to jump to his death rather than burning to death inside the tower.

 4. Marilyn Monroe holds her dress down on Thursday, May 29th while standing on top of a subway in New York city. As air blew up she also poses for a picture.

 5. Sarah Williams thinks about what will happen after all the flooding because of the hurricanes on October in Orlando Florida. She extremely worries for her family and how they are going to get through it.

Academic Shoot Reflection

1.) Some challenges I encountered while trying to get the photos that followed the rules were adjusting my self to capture the rules and trying to find in which classes I could get some good photos.

2.) The thing i was mostly thinking about was the focusing because my camera was manual focus and every time I zoomed in or out I needed to adjust the focus.

3.) If i could do this assignment again i would probably try harder to find the rules and capture them well with the camera.

4.) Something i would do the same is the rule of simplicity because i think i did that very well.

5.) I think that the easiest rule to achieve would be the framing rule.

6.) I think that the harder rule to achieve would be the simplicity rule.

7.) A rule that I am still not totally clear on is the rule of balance. Something I can do to figure out this rule is look for more examples on it and practice it.

Purpose to Photography: Africa and Mural Project Preview

Africa

I thought that the PowerPoint was really pretty. I liked the photos a lot.

This photo was my favorite because I liked how it looks like the elephants
are in a line and they all look the same.
This photo kind of shows the rule of thirds because the front elephant is
not in the middle.

Photographer: Nick Brandt
The kind of camera he uses is a Pentax 67II with only two fixed lenses.
His reason for taking these photos is because one of his goals is recording a last testament to the wild animals and places there before they are destroyed by the hands of man.
His hope by taking these types of photos is that people realize the beautiful creatures we have in this planet and that they so something different to prevent their extinction.
"You wouldn't take a portrait of a human being from a hundred feet away and expect to capture their spirit; you'd move in closer." -Nick Brandt.

Mural Project Preview

1.) A theme we could use here at school to make a mural that tells a unique Akins story would be how students in Akins are and what they like to do for fun or like art.
2.) This theme is worth devoting time and effort to capture because students will like it and pay attention to it. Other students could care about this theme because they will find them interesting.
3.) The advantages to using a phone camera to do this project is that when we don't have the SLR camera available for use, we can just pull out our phone, the disadvantages are that the phone cameras might not come out as focused as they should.
4.) The advantages to using an SLR camera is that the photos will come out really good and focused, the disadvantages are that they aren't always available to us for use.
5.) We should use both, SLR cameras and our phone cameras because we don't know when we will need to take pictures and we need available cameras all the time.

Academics Shoot

Simplicity
1. I think I followed this rule really well.
2. The subject is the girl doing her work.
3. I think it would be clear to know what the subject is if people look at this photo.

Balance
1. I think I didn't really follow this rule to well.
2. The main subjects on this photo are the sky and the grass.
3. I don't really think it would be clear to people looking at this photo.
4. I could have made it clear by taking the photo somewhere with more students walking.

Frame
1. I think I followed this photo really well.
2. The subjects in this photo are the two guys playing basketball.
3. I think the subject is very clear to people looking at this photo.

Rule of Thirds
1. I think I followed this rule somewhat okay.
2. The subjects are the two girls running.
3. I don't really think the subjects are clear in this photo.
4. Something I could of done differently on this photo is if i wouldn't have had the
boy in the photo also.

Avoiding Mergers
1. I think I followed this rule really well.
2. The subject in this photo is the person's arm who got cut off.
3. I think the subject is pretty clear in this photo.

Lines
1. I don't think I followed this rule well at all.
2. The subjects in this photo are the computers.
3. I don't think people will know what the subject is in this photo.
4. Something i could have done differently on this photo is find a better example
of lines because two of the computer are out of place.

Academics Shoot Preview

The Story
I chose this photo for best story because just by looking at it you can imagine some kind of hart touching story since there are guys in a circle holding hands around something.

Action and Emotion
I chose this photo for action and emotion because it shows two students playing with their teacher and all three of the look like they are having fun together.

Filling the frame
I chose this photo for the photo that fills the frame because everywhere in the photo there is something going on because of the liquid that is flying everywhere in the air.

I picked this photo as my favorite because I like how the paint is shooting out of the speaker because of all its force. A rule of photography that is evident in this photo is texture because by looking at the photo you can imagine the feeling and texture of the drops of paint.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

Many photographers have used photoshop, but there is a limit to photoshopping. Those pictures may be misinterpreted or misleading. Many professional photographers have changed the photos they take and have gotten in trouble for them. Photo manipulation is is a very serious and limited thing.

This type of photo editing is unethical because many people take advantage of editing their photos and may cause problems.

I think that these photos have the most unethical photo editing because someone photo shopped the african american guy onto the original photo (photo on the left) to show how diverse their campus is.

I consider these photos to be the least unethical because they don't cause any harm to anyone. All that was really photo shopped is the pole on top of the lady's head and they made the photo a bit brighter.

Elements of Art and Principles of Design

Lines are marks made by a pointed tool: brush, pencil, pen, etc. Lines can vary in width, direction, curvature, length, or color.
This painting has lines going up and down                This photo has horizontal and vertical lines all
all over the painting.                                                    throughout the bridge.

Shapes are formed wherever the ends of a continuous line meet. Geometric shapes such as circles, triangles or squares have perfect, uniform measurements and don't often appear in nature. Organic shapes are associated with things from the natural world, like plants and animals.
This painting shows many rectangles made by pictures         This photo shows many squares popping
of the chicken noodle soup.                                                      out of the photo.

Color wheels show the primary colors, secondary colors, and the tertiary (intermediate) colors. They also show the relationships between complementary colors across from each other, such as blue and orange; and analogous (similar or related) colors next to each other such as yellow, green, and blue. Black and white may be thought of as colors but, in fact, they are not. White light is the presence of all color; black is the absence of reflected light and therefore the absence of color.
This photo shows a lot of different colors,
from cool colors to warm colors.

In this painting there are many warm colors
the buildings and the cool colors are in the
night sky.

Value, or tone, refers to dark and light; the value scale refers to black and white with all gradations of gray in between. Value contrasts help us to see and understand a two-dimensional work of art.
In this painting the different shades of                   This picture has a lot of black, white, and gray

ball the man is holding.

Form describes objects that are three-dimensional, having length, width, and height.

In this photo the straws look three-
dimensional, like if you could pull
The painting on the road looks really three-dimensional                 one of the straws out of the photo.
that if you get near it, it looks like you will fall.

Texture can be rough, bumpy, slick, scratchy, smooth, silky, soft, prickly--the list is endless. Texture refers to the surface quality, both simulated and actual, of artwork.

This painting shows texture because on the white
part, it looks very soft and on the tree it looks             In this photo the sand looks like it has texture and
rough and spiky.                                                        if you run your hand on it, it would feel bumpy.

Space refers to distances or areas around, between, or within components of a piece. Space can be positive (white or light) or negative (black or dark), open or closed, shallow or deep, and two-dimensional or three-dimensional.

This painting shows space because the girl                  In this photo the flowers are the only object in
is the only thing in the painting and she's alone.         the photo, and the background is just plain black.

Avoiding Mergers

In a photo like this, mergers need to be avoided because on the side of the photo it shows
many people getting cut off and it only shows half of their body.

Framing

This photo shows framing because the broken window makes a frame around the United States
flag and other things outside like the broken wood.

Balance

This photo shows balance because if you split the photo in half, both sides would
really look alike and the picture looks even.

Lines

This photo clearly shows many lines but all these lines lead upward towards
the blueish, grayish sky.

The Rule of Thirds

This photo shows the rule of thirds because even though the picture is black and white you can clearly see the flag even though its not in the middle, and if you make three horizontal and three vertical lines on the photo, the flag is on one of the intersections.

Simplicity

This photo shows simplicity because behind one of the twin towers you can see
the simple, clear, blue sky.

40 Greatest Photos Ever

By: Gabriela Ionita
I picked this photo because i thought it was nice for the little boy to share something with the soldier and let them know that they are all human. Something that definitely caught my attention about this photo is the bright colored heart shaped balloon. I think that this photo made it to the top 40 photos ever because it shows that a little boy wants to have peace and be happy.

By: Stan Stearns
The reason I picked this photo is because i think is nice that the little boy salutes his father's coffin along with the honor guard. What caught my attention about this photo is that not only the soldiers are saluting the coffin, but so is his little son. I think this photo made it to the top 40 photos ever because it shows how strong the little boy is.

By: William Anders
I liked how the whole photo is dark except for the Earth. Something about this picture that caught my attention is the bright blue half circle in the darkest place. I think this photo made it to the top 40 photos ever because its unique and you don't get to see this view often.
