Purpose to Photography: Africa and Mural Project Preview

Africa

I thought that the PowerPoint was really pretty. I liked the photos a lot.

This photo was my favorite because I liked how it looks like the elephants
are in a line and they all look the same.
This photo kind of shows the rule of thirds because the front elephant is
not in the middle.

Photographer: Nick Brandt
The kind of camera he uses is a Pentax 67II with only two fixed lenses.
His reason for taking these photos is because one of his goals is recording a last testament to the wild animals and places there before they are destroyed by the hands of man.
His hope by taking these types of photos is that people realize the beautiful creatures we have in this planet and that they so something different to prevent their extinction.
"You wouldn't take a portrait of a human being from a hundred feet away and expect to capture their spirit; you'd move in closer." -Nick Brandt.

Mural Project Preview

1.) A theme we could use here at school to make a mural that tells a unique Akins story would be how students in Akins are and what they like to do for fun or like art.
2.) This theme is worth devoting time and effort to capture because students will like it and pay attention to it. Other students could care about this theme because they will find them interesting.
3.) The advantages to using a phone camera to do this project is that when we don't have the SLR camera available for use, we can just pull out our phone, the disadvantages are that the phone cameras might not come out as focused as they should.
4.) The advantages to using an SLR camera is that the photos will come out really good and focused, the disadvantages are that they aren't always available to us for use.
5.) We should use both, SLR cameras and our phone cameras because we don't know when we will need to take pictures and we need available cameras all the time.

Academics Shoot

Simplicity
1. I think I followed this rule really well.
2. The subject is the girl doing her work.
3. I think it would be clear to know what the subject is if people look at this photo.

Balance
1. I think I didn't really follow this rule to well.
2. The main subjects on this photo are the sky and the grass.
3. I don't really think it would be clear to people looking at this photo.
4. I could have made it clear by taking the photo somewhere with more students walking.

Frame
1. I think I followed this photo really well.
2. The subjects in this photo are the two guys playing basketball.
3. I think the subject is very clear to people looking at this photo.

Rule of Thirds
1. I think I followed this rule somewhat okay.
2. The subjects are the two girls running.
3. I don't really think the subjects are clear in this photo.
4. Something I could of done differently on this photo is if i wouldn't have had the
boy in the photo also.

Avoiding Mergers
1. I think I followed this rule really well.
2. The subject in this photo is the person's arm who got cut off.
3. I think the subject is pretty clear in this photo.

Lines
1. I don't think I followed this rule well at all.
2. The subjects in this photo are the computers.
3. I don't think people will know what the subject is in this photo.
4. Something i could have done differently on this photo is find a better example
of lines because two of the computer are out of place.

Academics Shoot Preview

The Story
I chose this photo for best story because just by looking at it you can imagine some kind of hart touching story since there are guys in a circle holding hands around something.

Action and Emotion
I chose this photo for action and emotion because it shows two students playing with their teacher and all three of the look like they are having fun together.

Filling the frame
I chose this photo for the photo that fills the frame because everywhere in the photo there is something going on because of the liquid that is flying everywhere in the air.

I picked this photo as my favorite because I like how the paint is shooting out of the speaker because of all its force. A rule of photography that is evident in this photo is texture because by looking at the photo you can imagine the feeling and texture of the drops of paint.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

Many photographers have used photoshop, but there is a limit to photoshopping. Those pictures may be misinterpreted or misleading. Many professional photographers have changed the photos they take and have gotten in trouble for them. Photo manipulation is is a very serious and limited thing.

This type of photo editing is unethical because many people take advantage of editing their photos and may cause problems.

I think that these photos have the most unethical photo editing because someone photo shopped the african american guy onto the original photo (photo on the left) to show how diverse their campus is.

I consider these photos to be the least unethical because they don't cause any harm to anyone. All that was really photo shopped is the pole on top of the lady's head and they made the photo a bit brighter.
